  • Patricia Lynn Gilmer passed away unexpectedly on June 9, 2018, at the age of 65. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, June 25, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon at CedarVale Funeral Home.

Pat was born on July 15, 1952, in Beaver County, Pennsylvania to Mario and Kathleen Sullivan, the oldest of five children. After her father’s death, the family moved to California, where she met her husband and began their 50-year relationship. They married in 1974 and their daughters were born in 1983 and 1987. The great joys of Pat’s life were her husband and daughters.

An avid crafter all her life, she loved sewing, cross stitch, and more. Most recently, knitting occupied her attention and she was thrilled to share her creations with others, taking full advantage of virtual communities to create life-long bonds with friends around the world. She passed on the crafting-bug to her daughters in various forms who have since found their own joy in creating.

She and her husband took great pride in their home and gardens and could often be found relaxing on their deck, porch, or dock watching the birds and enjoying their evenings with a glass of wine.

As the self-described butterfly that she was, she flitted through people’s lives bringing joy and light with her, sharing her passions, but passing through far too quickly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mario Sullivan. She is survived by her husband, James Richard Gilmer; her daughters, Katherine Elizabeth Gilmer and Andrea Susan Gilmer; son-in-law, Ryan Williams; mother, Kathleen Treantafellow; sisters Kimberly Goulding and Denise Michaels; brothers, Mark Sullivan and Michael Sullivan; their spouses and children; and friends around the world.”

A celebration of life will be held June, 25 2018 from 10 to 12 AM at the Cedarvale Funeral Home Chapel.

I knew Pat twenty years ago in Louisiana. She was an articulate and eager member of the book club. I have a scarf that she knitted and I treasure it and think of her whenever I wear it. I am so sorry for this tragic too soon loss.

I was so sorry to learn of Pat's death. She belonged to the Northpark Book group and a small lunch book group, a birthday lunch group and the garden club. She was an avid reader and was always recommending books. I am lucky to be a recipient of one of her beaded necklaces and remember her smiling face whenever I wear it. My sincere sympathies to Jim, Annie and Katie. Gretchen

I've known Pat since our kids were young and our husbands worked together in the oilpatch of Bakersfield. We played Bunco for years every month too. She was fun, hard working and talented. My sad condolences to her family. A bright star will be missed

For: Jim, Katy, and Annie Pat and I became close friends when Katy and Annie and our kids, Jennifer and James, were attending Quailwood Elementary. You know that you have a good friend, a dear friend when you can sit or stand for hours and talk. This is exactly the kind of friend I had in Pat. When you moved away from Bakersfield, Pat and I didn't talk as much but when we did, it was as if no time had passed. That's when you know you have a true friend. Pat's friendship which has enriched my life and her smile will always, always be remembered. Love to all of you, Debbie Margrave

Even though I have known Pat for a very short time, she was a beloved person with the knitting group in hot springs village. Always cheerful, new projects going, she was eager to share them and "tips" on how to accomplish and teach projects. Pat was so very active in the group , that she will be very much missed. karin
